Al-Barakah Charity Trust

Our Mission

Al-Barakah Charity Trust (ACT)'s mission is to complement government, other NGOs and individuals efforts in the provision of social services to the community in Malawi with emphasis on education, health and relief.

Education
The flagship project of Al-Barakah Trust is Mama Khadija Girls Academy based in Namwera area in Mangochi. The Academy is a centre of learning for girls with a capacity of 1000 students. It is a project which has won acclaim and recognition from the government as a milestone in the provision of education especially to girls.

Assalam Boys Private School is another education project by Al-Barakah Charity Trust. MDI did the first phase and registered the school. When Al-Barakah took over the running of the school, it embarked on the second phase of the school by constructing hostels for 106 boys, 45 staff houses, a computer complex, an administration block, a masjid, Assalam Clinic and a block of two laboratories which is almost complete.

An earlier project of Al-Barakah Trust in the field of education was the construction of a lady teachers’ training college, which has since been handed over to Bilal Trust and now operates at Likala in Mangochi as Mariam Girls Teacher Training College.

Relief
Al-Barakah Trust also engages in relief work. In the past few years of existence Al-Barakah Charity Trust has provided relief to victims of hunger and storm which hit Makanjira area in Mangochi.

In the lower Shire victims of floods during rain season have also benefitted from help provided by Al-Barakah Trust.

On a regular basis Al-Barakah Charity Trust organizes Iftaar Swaim for the fasting by providing meals on a communal basis in Ramadhan.

To mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, Al-Barakah Trust organizes meals, which are offered after prayers to the Muslim public that gathers at Kameza Training Centre. This is a special occasion for all people from different walks of life to interact and share the moments as they look back at the spiritual highlights of the month of Ramadan.

Qurbani is also observed after Eid-ul-Adha with the distribution of meat to Muslims on a yearly basis. This year 300 goats were slaughtered and were distributed in Blantyre and Mulanje.
