About us
Background:
Al Barakah Charity Trust (ACT) was registered as a local organisation in Malawi in the year 2000. The Board of Trustees consists of five members chaired by Sheikh Muhammad Munif Nahdi who is Group Chairman of the family investments in the region and Managing Director of Petroda (Malawi) Ltd. The main aim of setting the Trust was to fulfil a religious duty of assisting the needy members of the community as well as in appreciation of the Government of Malawi’s role in providing a conducive environment for business operations. Petroda (Malawi) Ltd is actually the main donor of the activities of ACT in Malawi.


 

Objectives:

The major objectives of ACT are:

  • To provide education in areas of science, technology and social studies
  • To support drought areas with clean water, food and health services
  • To establish educational and health institutions, social clubs and other socio-economic and cultural bodies which shall serve the purpose of the Trust
  • With the big number of orphans and widows in the country, ACT shall aim to extend aid to orphans and needy families.
  • To promote racial, religious and cultural harmony
  • To promote and provide facilities for vocational training

In summary, the main objectives of ACT are to support programs in education, health and relief that particullarly benefit the needy people.

Projects/Programmes:
In its efforts to complement government efforts in the provision of social services in the areas of education, health rand relief, Al-Barakah Charity Trust has constructed the following social service institutions in Malawi:

Future Plans:

  • Plans to establish a an eduation complex consisiting of a Boys secondary school, a health centre and an agriculture school in Nselema-Machinga.
  • ACT plans to build two health centres. Already ACT has asked T/A Chimwala to provide land for the immediate construction of a Health Centre as the current clinic is small and there is no suitable land for expansion. ACT plans to build another Health Centre  and a College of Nursing  in Namwera at Mama Khadijah Education Complex
  • Current two mini-education centres are under construction at Namalaka and Malika in Zomba. The two centres shall offer madrassah qurania, nursery school, tailoring school and primary health care lessons. In future clinic services shall be introduced.
  • Other mini education Centres are going to run at Matuwi in Mangochi, Ndaje in Machinga, Jokala, Chinamwali and Chikanda in Zomba after these places are developed. These plots that are partly developed were handed over to ACT by Zamzam Foundation.
  •  ACT shall continue to work with other NGOs with similar interest to establish a high centre(s) of learning to cater for the high demand for good standard high education and to establish a hospital.

Al-Barakah Charity Trust shall increase its activities in complementing government and other NGO’s effort to implement programs that aim to reduce poverty and provide good education and health facilities in the community. ACT shall continue to stress on girls education as one of the major means of fighting poverty. So far ACT is pleased with the impact that its sponsored projects and programs are having among needy families.

Education, Relief & Health ACT is a faith based non-governmental organization that was registered in the year 2001 with a mission to complement government, other NGOs and individuals efforts in the provision of social services to the community in Malawi with emphasis on education, health and relief.
