Al-Barakah Charity Trust

Mama Khadijah Girls Academy

Background

Al-Barakah Charity Trust came up with putting this school after observing that Mangochi district and surrounding areas’ access to secondary education is very low and worse on girls. This is because firstly most primary schools in the district have poor infrastructures, are under-staffed and too distant apart.

Secondly, there are not enough schools in the area and the only government aided girls secondary school, most of the years, takes less than ten percent of students of the area.

Thirdly, since most parents in this area are Muslims, due to the background of education in the district, there has been a deliberate shunning of missionary schools due to the fact children are indoctrined into their faith through encouraging them to attend church service, and making negative remarks against their Islamic faith. As a result, the few girls who went through these schools, a good number of them ended up leaving their faith and this did not go well with their parents who opted for them to become young mothers at an early age than leaving their faith.

Thus after observing these facts among others, Albarakah decided to build a magnificent girls school with affirmative ction to girls in Mangochi district. Hence it is expected that out of the over 800 girls that shall be studying at the school, at least half shall be from Mangochi and the surrounding areas.

Mama Barika Masjid

The Masjid (mosque) is about 900 meters squared. It can take more than 800 worshipers at a time. It is a well designed and strongly built Masjid.

Laboratories

For successful future career of students, Albarakah Charity Trust believes that a school of this nature should have very good labs and all experiments recommended in the syllabus should be carried out without any hinderance. For this reason, there are four modern and spacious
laboratories for Chemistry, Physical science, Home Economics and  Computer.

The computer room is to be equipped from January 2010 with a network of the latest 250GB desktop computers that are already purchased.

Hall and Library

The Mama Barika Hall is a multi-purpose hall. It has a stage where students can develop language through drama, debates and  presentations. The hall is for functions as well as dining. The Library is adjacent to the computer lab and students and stuff through internet shall easily access some information not readily available in the library.
