Al-Barakah Charity Trust

Achievements

The year 2010, Alihamdulillah, was a great year for Al-Barakah Charity Trust, especially in the area of Education. Some of the achievements in this year (2010) are as follows:

1. Admission of Students into Public and Private  Universities

Alhamdulillah, with the Will of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala), in the year 2010, 57 students from Assalam Complex made it to Universities. Out of these 57 students, 3 from Assalam Boys Secondary School were selected to pursue their studies to the University of Malawi, 32 students to Zanzibar University.

Further, 20 students from Assalam Muallim Training Institute were admitted to pursue their education at International University of Africa in Sudan and 2 to University of Madina in Saud Arabia

2. The Opening of Mama Khadija Primary Schools

The day school has STD 1 to 8 with 9     Malawi Government paid teachers and 349 students attending daily while the Mama     Khadija Primary boarding school admitted 100 students in two STD 5 classes.

3. The existence of classes from form 1 to form 4

at the Mama Khadija Girls Academy with a     total of 544 students is another great accomplishment. The school started four years ago and in 2011, the first group of form 4 students shall write MSCE exams (O level) inshaAllah.

4. 100 Percent Pass Rates in Junior Certificate Examinations

All 194 students that sat for JCE in 2010 in our two secondary schools passed. They consisted of 154 girls at Mama Khadija Private Academy and 40 boys at Assalam Boys Private Secondary School.  All 19 students that sat for MSCE exams at Assalam Boys passed of whom 9 qualify to enterinto the University. While at Muallim Institute, all 65 final year students passed the IUA Diploma examinations, Alihamdulillah.

5. Increase in the Number Pupils Registering and attending Madaris

The rural Madaris stand in number 335 with 366 mualims teaching. In the year 2010, almost 38,000 pupils were registered and 26,000 were attending madrass daily on average. In the National Quran competition, 8 of the 13 students that excelled in the finals were from Albarakah Madaris. A Hifiz student from SWAMA was the best at Inter- Hifiz Institutions and he is going to represent Malawi at a Qur’an Competition in Mauritania.

6. Provision of Relevant Education that Meet the Needs of The Community

Currently Albarakah is running the best Madaris, hence most Dar Ulooms when they need students they mostly recruit from Albarakah Madaris. All 9 students that finished and graduated hifiz in 2010 at Nuru Hidayah Madrass in Blantyre were all recruited from Albarakah Madrassas in Mangochi.

Similarly most of the students doing well at Omar Bin Khattab Madras were recruited from Albarakah Madrassas in Mangochi. This is like that because a good number of ACT Mualims are well qualified, fairly paid, and inspection is more regular.

7. Relief
Two successful relief programs of Iftar swaim and Khuruban were done in the year. Areas that had problems of food staff for Iftar were given rice and sugar worth K4 million Kwacha and dates. In Thulhijah (Eid adhah period), 1000 goats worth K5 Million Kwacha were slaughtered and distributed. Recipients included Jamaats from the communities and inmates from prisons.

8. Advocacy/outreach Programs
Programs on Islamic morals, messages on HIV/AIDS awareness, involving youth/students and women were done mostly at Kameza, Zodec, Balaka, and Mangochi Development Centers. On 1st December which is National Aids Day, both clinics organized a successful National Aids Day involving staff, students and the community and Malawi Government was very impressed with the program.

9. Health

A total of over 21,000 sick people were treated as outpatients both at Assalam and Mama Khadija Clinics during the year.

10.  Projects
During the year, we witnessed the completion of Mama Khadijah primary school in Namwera, a library, computer laboratory and Home economics laboratory at Mama Khadijah Girls private Secondary School, a laboratory at Assalam Boys Secondary School and commencement of Masjid construction at Kameza Training Centre in Blantyre.
